CHAOS AND CORNFUSION or DEATH OF A SCARECROW

Kaw! Kaw!
Hubby and I worked so hard to have a large bountiful garden this year! We had visions of tomatoes, beans, CORN, and sugarplums dancing in our heads for months! Then the Spring rains came. And it poured. And poured. And poured. Finally one day the rains stopped and we commenced to plant. We planted and planted and planted. Potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, squashes, peppers, and CORN. Well the CORN never came up. So we planted it again. Again no CORN.
Then we realized we had a problem...with CROWS. So we planted CORN again and this time I placed Mr. Scarecrow in the garden. Our CORN began to grow. "Yes! We will have fresh CORN!" we shouted. Then a storm blew in knocked the Mr.Scarecrow to the ground. "Awe Haw!", said the crows. "The scarecrow man is dead! We will again eat CORN!" and they swooped down and pulled our little CORN plants out of the ground and ate the CORN.
The End Here lies Mr. Scarecrow. He was a faithful servant until his untimely death. RIP

Blooms!

I did everything I could to dig this plant up last winter. I just did not like it. It was planted right in the middle of the back yard and I just did NOT want it there. Well I guess the roots must reach China because I could NOT dig it up so I just let it live.
As Gomer Pyle would say. "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!" Look in the center of the picture. Those little pale green things are FIGS. I was told that this fig plant never produced. Looks like I might be making some "Figgy pudding" this Christmas!
My Birdhouse gourds are up and thriving!

Scarlet red Crepe Myrtle blooms

My sage is finally growing! I love fresh sage in my dressing. Ever tried it?

Hello, Mr. Lincoln rose! mmm smells good!

Star shaped pumpkin bloom. These blooms are huge!

Summer is officially here. We are finally getting some drier, sunnier days and everything is growing like crazy! Our garden is finally looking like a real garden. The cucumbers are beginning to climb. The tomatoes are growing and need to be caged up. And we finally have corn plants up! Yay! Yesterday Hubby planted 9 Papershell Pecan trees ( I helped but he did all the hard work because he is so strong). We are hoping to have a small (maybe 20 trees) Pecan Grove for our retirement years. ewww! That makes me feel very old just typing that!

I am glad to be an American!

Let's hear it for the Red, White, and Blue devil's food cupcakes!

Lulu did an awesome job on this patriotic jello dessert! mm mm mmmm!
We Americans can really make good desserts!

I did a little thrift shoppin' today

Large crystal pedestal bowl with scalloped silver rim. Gorgeous!

Darling vintage overnight case. I am addicted to old luggage!

Large silver plated tray

Had to go into town today so I figured I might as well hit the thrift store. I probably won't be able to go any during the weekend . Anyway, I just love the bowl. It is gorgeous in true life. Also crazy about the overnight case. I like to use them to store old pictures. And one of these days I am going to host a party with my closest friends and serve refreshments using all my silver serving trays.

Have a safe 4th of July!

Celebrating Our Independence

There is something about adding the American flag that makes things even more special.
I am so glad to live in America!
I looove old newspapers.
I found this one the other day at an antique sale. It is the Tulsa World July 4th 1976 Bicentennial edition. That was the year I graduated from Checotah High School. Can you believe I got it for $.25? What a treasure!

This was one of the articles in the Tulsa World. I liked the picture.
The heading says "We Moved Slowly Into Independence".

This is a picture taken at the Paul Henry Carr Day in Checotah, Oklahoma in 1991. The VFW, of which my parents were members, built the float for the parade. It was a ship. The three children on the right are my kids. The other children are my nieces and a nephew. My daddy stands Very Proudly in the background. I love this picture.
* I almost forgot to mention that the uniforms are original whites and blues that we found in an old abandoned house near my parents home. The sailor must have been really small because we did minimal alterations for the clothes to fit the kids.
